Wage Love
Wage love?
What does that mean, do I prepare to fight
What if I want to surrender
What if my love is quiet, discreet, doubting
What if it is surrounded by harvests in abundance, full bellies, satisfied palates
What if it is feeling the coolness of water on my skin, on my tongue, hydrating my skin
What if it is transporting to places, learning, engaging silently
What if it’s our souls connecting in peace, in love
Is that the love I’m asked to wage
A yearning, how do I wage love
When I feel warmth in another person’s smile
When a child is nurtured and knows without a doubt that they are loved, deeply loved
When we means all of us, when the word matter is spoken as a fact
When our care is our currency, our medicine
When we are sheltered in warmth, affection, ease
Maybe that’s how I wage love
Why fight for kindness, dignity – is it even possible when we have already won
We are kind
We are nurtured
We are loved
We are neglected
We are assigned like collateral, labor is our currency, learned through camp, school, entertainment, force, lies
We are used as revenue
We dance to free ourselves sometimes to music holding us captive, selling us
When we are free, we soar into deep breathes, to peace, to rest, to rhythm in our soul
We hear and see more, we are one with spirit
We are vibration
When we are free, we create and live to live so we can give life, nurture life
Admire the beauty of the trees, the tiny flowers, the glory of the web beneath us
We are free
We are shackled, our souls are free
What does it mean to wage love?
Enlightened, leading with love – eyes wide open and with love
Love for each breath, for beautiful oceans, tides of luna and warmth of sol
Waging love is our journey to each other, is our true heart-work
Our purpose
Being distracted slows our progress, pushes the front line sideways
Being distracted is comfort
Each day we wake, we wage love
Each day we sleep, we wage love
With each breath, we wage love because the battle is already fought and the war already won
Destruction is temporary, life is expansive, timeless, forever
I was moved to write this while reading Grievers by adrienne maree brown. Specifically when Dune feels inspired to want community to “wage love,” with the energy of Mama Kama in the room. Many blessings and much appreciation to adrienne maree brown for sharing her creative wisdom and daring us to imagine
